January 4 – Chapter 1; Verses 11-13
अयनेषु च सर्वेषु यथाभागमवस्थिताः ।
भीष्ममेवाभिरक्षन्तु भवन्तः सर्व एव हि ॥ १-११॥
ayaneṣhu cha sarveṣhu yathā-bhāgam avasthitāḥ
bhīṣhmam evābhirakṣhantu bhavantaḥ sarva eva hi (11)
அயனேஷு ச1 ஸர்வேஷு யதா2பா4க3மவஸ்தி2தா1: |
பீ4ஷ்மமேவாபி4ரக்ஷந்து1 ப4வந்த1:
ஸர்வ ஏவ ஹி ||11||
11. “Therefore, do ye all,
stationed in your respective positions in the several divisions of the army,
protect Bhishma alone”.
तस्य सञ्जनयन्हर्षं कुरुवृद्धः पितामहः ।
सिंहनादं विनद्योच्चैः शङ्खं दध्मौ प्रतापवान्
॥ १-१२॥
tasya sañjanayan harṣhaṁ kuru-vṛiddhaḥ pitāmahaḥ
siṁha-nādaṁ vinadyochchaiḥ śhaṅkhaṁ dadhmau
pratāpavān (12)
த1ஸ்ய ஸஞ்ஜனயன்ஹர்ஷம் கு1ருவ்ருத்3த4:
பி1தா1மஹ: |
ஸிம்ஹனாத3ம் வினத்3யோச்சை: ஶங்க2ம் த3த்4மௌ
ப்1ரதா1ப1வான் ||12||
12. His glorious grandsire
(Bhishma), the eldest of the Kauravas, in order to cheer Duryodhana, now roared
like a lion and blew his conch.
ततः शङ्खाश्च भेर्यश्च पणवानकगोमुखाः ।
सहसैवाभ्यहन्यन्त स शब्दस्तुमुलोऽभवत् ॥ १-१३॥
tataḥ śhaṅkhāśhcha bheryaśhcha paṇavānaka-gomukhāḥ
sahasaivābhyahanyanta sa śhabdastumulo ’bhavat (13)

13. Then (following
Bhishma), conches and kettle-drums, tabors, drums and cow-horns blared forth
quite suddenly (from the side of the Kauravas); and the sound was tremendous.
