January 11 – Chapter 1;
Verses 38-39
यद्यप्येते न पश्यन्ति लोभोपहतचेतसः
।
कुलक्षयकृतं दोषं मित्रद्रोहे च
पातकम् ॥ १-३८॥
yady apy ete na paśhyanti lobhopahata-chetasaḥ
kula-kṣhaya-kṛitaṁ doṣhaṁ mitra-drohe cha pātakam (38)
யத்4யப்1யேதே2 ந
ப1ஶ்யன்தி1 லோபோ4ப1ஹத1சே1த1ஸ:
|
கு1லக்ஷயக்1ருத1ம் தோ3ஷம் மித்1ர
த்3ரோஹே ச1 பா1த1க1ம்
||38||
38. Though
they, with intelligence overpowered by greed, see no evil in the destruction of
families, and no sin in hostility to friends,
कथं न ज्ञेयमस्माभिः पापादस्मान्निवर्तितुम्
।
कुलक्षयकृतं दोषं प्रपश्यद्भिर्जनार्दन ॥ १-३९॥
kathaṁ na jñeyam asmābhiḥ pāpād asmān nivartitum
kula-kṣhaya-kṛitaṁ doṣhaṁ prapaśhyadbhir janārdana (39)

39. Why should
not we, who clearly see evil in the destruction of a family, learn to turn away
from this sin, O Janardana (Krishna)?
COMMENTARY: Ignorance of the law is no
excuse and wanton sinful conduct is a crime unworthy of knowledgeable people
who are wiser.
