January 12 – Chapter 1;
Verses 40-42
कुलक्षये प्रणश्यन्ति कुलधर्माः
सनातनाः ।
धर्मे नष्टे कुलं कृत्स्नमधर्मोऽभिभवत्युत
॥ १-४०॥
kula-kṣhaye praṇaśhyanti kula-dharmāḥ sanātanāḥ
dharme naṣhṭe kulaṁ kṛitsnam adharmo ’bhibhavaty uta (40)
கு1லக்ஷயே ப்1ரணஶ்யன்தி1 கு1லத4ர்மா:
ஸனாத1னா: |
த4ர்மே நஷ்டே கு1லம் க்1ருத்1ஸ்னம் அத4ர்மோபி4ப4வத்1யுத1 ||40||
40. In the
destruction of a family, the immemorial religious rites of that family perish;
on the destruction of spirituality, impiety overcomes the whole family.
Commentary: Dharma pertains to the duties and
ceremonies practiced by the family in accordance with the injunctions of the
scriptures.
अधर्माभिभवात्कृष्ण प्रदुष्यन्ति
कुलस्त्रियः ।
स्त्रीषु दुष्टासु वार्ष्णेय जायते
वर्णसङ्करः ॥ १-४१॥
adharmābhibhavāt kṛiṣhṇa praduṣhyanti
kula-striyaḥ
strīṣhu duṣhṭāsu vārṣhṇeya jāyate varṇa-saṅkaraḥ (41)
அத4ர்மாபி4ப4வாத்1க்1ருஷ்ண
ப்1ரது3ஷ்யன்தி1 கு1லஸ்த்1ரிய:
|
ஸ்த்1ரீஷு து3ஷ்டா1ஸு வார்ஷ்ணேய ஜாயதே1 வர்ணஸங்க1ர:
||41||
41. By
prevalence of impiety, O Krishna, the women of the family become corrupt and,
women becoming corrupted, O Varsneya (descendant of Vrishni), there arises
intermingling of castes!
सङ्करो नरकायैव कुलघ्नानां कुलस्य
च ।
पतन्ति पितरो ह्येषां लुप्तपिण्डोदकक्रियाः
॥ १-४२॥
saṅkaro narakāyaiva kula-ghnānāṁ
kulasya cha
patanti pitaro hy eṣhāṁ lupta-piṇḍodaka-kriyāḥ (42)
ஸங்க1ரோ நரகா1யைவ
கு1லக்4னானாம் கு1லஸ்ய ச1 |
ப1த1ன்தி பி1த1ரோ ஹ்யேஷாம் லுப்1த1பி1ண்டோ1த3க1க்1ரியா
||42||
42. Confusion
of castes leads to hell the slayers of the family, for their forefathers fall,
deprived of the offerings of rice-ball and water.
