Chapter 2 - SANKHYA YOGA

अथ द्वितीयोऽध्यायः ।   साङ्ख्ययोगः

January 15 – Chapter 2; Verses 1-3

Day 15 [2.01-2.03]

सञ्जय उवाच

तं तथा कृपयाविष्टमश्रुपूर्णाकुलेक्षणम् ।

विषीदन्तमिदं वाक्यमुवाच मधुसूदनः ॥ २-१॥ 

Sañjaya uvācha
ta
tathā kipayāviham aśhru pūrākulekhaam
vi
hīdantam ida vākyam uvācha madhusūdana(2.1) 

ஸஞ்ஜய உவாச1 |
1ம் த1தா2 க்1ருப1யாவிஷ்ட1ம் அஶ்ருபூ1ர்ணாகு1லேக்ஷணம் |
விஷீத3ன்த1மித3ம் வாக்1யமுவாச1 மது4ஸூத3ன: || 1 ||

Sanjaya said:

1. To him who was thus overcome with pity and who was despondent, with eyes full of tears and agitated, Krishna or Madhusudana (the destroyer of Madhu), spoke these words.

 

श्रीभगवानुवाच

कुतस्त्वा कश्मलमिदं विषमे समुपस्थितम् ।

अनार्यजुष्टमस्वर्ग्यम् अकीर्तिकरमर्जुन ॥ २-२॥ 

Śhrī Bhagavān uvācha
kutastvā kaśhmalamida
vihame samupasthitam
anārya-ju
hamaswargyam akīrti-karam Arjuna (2.2) 

ஶ்ரீ ப43வானுவாச1 |
கு11ஸ்த்1வா க1ஶ்மலமித3ம் விஷமே ஸமுப1ஸ்தி21ம் |
அனார்யஜுஷ்ட1மஸ்வர்க்3
ம் அகீ1ர்திக1ரமர்ஜுன ||2||

 

Sri Bhagavaan Uvaacha:…The Blessed Lord said; arjuna… O Arjuna; Kutah… Whence; idam kashmalam… this dejection; twaa…of yours; samupasthitam…appeared;  vishame…at this moment of crisis; Anaaryajushtam … unworthy of thee (not befitting honorable men); aswargyam… which will close the gates of heaven; akeertikaram… disgraceful ( the cause of infamy). 

The Blessed Lord said:

2. Whence is this perilous strait (difficult situation) come upon thee, this dejection which is unworthy of thee, disgraceful, and which will close the gates of heaven upon thee, O Arjuna? 

 

क्लैब्यं मा स्म गमः पार्थ नैतत्त्वय्युपपद्यते ।

क्षुद्रं हृदयदौर्बल्यं त्यक्त्वोत्तिष्ठ परन्तप ॥ २-३॥ 

klaibya mā sma gama pārtha naitat tvayyupapadyate

hudra hidaya-daurbalya tyaktvottihha parantapa (2.3) 

க்1லைப்3யம் மா ஸ்ம க3ம: பார்த2 நைத1த்1வய்யுப11த்3யதே1 |
க்ஷுத்3ரம் ஹ்ருத3யதௌ3ர்ப3ல்யம் த்1யக்த்1வோத்1தி1ஷ்ட1 ப1ரந்த11 ||3||

Paartha… O Arjuna, son of Pritha!;  Klaibyam maa sma gamah… Yield not to impotence; etat… this; na upadyate… does not befit thee; twayi…of you; parantapa… O scorcher of foes; tyakta…(cast off) give up; Kshudram hridaya daurbalyam… mean weakness of the heart; uttishtha… Stand up. 

3. Yield not to impotence (weakness), O Arjuna, son of Pritha! It does not befit thee. Cast off this meanweakness of the heart. Stand up, O scorcher of foes (parantapa - Arjuna)!
