January 6 – Chapter 1; Verses 20-23
अथ व्यवस्थितान्दृष्ट्वा धार्तराष्ट्रान्
कपिध्वजः ।
प्रवृत्ते शस्त्रसम्पाते धनुरुद्यम्य
पाण्डवः ॥ १-२०॥
हृषीकेशं तदा वाक्यमिदमाह महीपते ।
atha vyavasthitān dṛiṣhṭvā dhārtarāṣhṭrān
kapi-dhwajaḥ
pravṛitte śhastra-sampāte dhanurudyamya pāṇḍavaḥ (20)
hṛiṣhīkeśhaṁ tadā vākyam idam āha mahī-pate
அத2 வ்யவஸ்தி2தா2ன்த்3ருஷ்
ட்1வா தா4ர்த1ராஷ்ட்1ரான்க1பி1த்4வஜ:

ப்1ரவ்ருத்1தே1 ஶஸ்த்1ரஸம்பா1தே1 த4னுருத்3யம்ய
பா1ண்ட3வ: ||20||
ஹ்ருஷீகே1ஶம் த1தா3 வாக்1யமித3மாஹ மஹீப1தே1 |
20. Then, seeing all the people of Dhritarashtra’s party standing arrayed and the discharge of weapons about to begin, Arjuna, the son of Pandu, whose ensign was that of a monkey, took up his bow and said the following to Krishna, O Lord of the Earth!
अर्जुन उवाच ।
सेनयोरुभयोर्मध्ये रथं स्थापय मेऽच्युत
॥ १-२१॥
यावदेतान्निरीक्षेऽहं योद्धुकामानवस्थितान्
।
कैर्मया सह योद्धव्यमस्मिन् रणसमुद्यमे ॥ १-२२॥
Arjuna uvācha
senayor ubhayor madhye rathaṁ
sthāpaya me ’chyuta (21)
yāvadetān nirīkṣhe ’haṁ
yoddhu-kāmān avasthitān
kairmayā saha yoddhavyam asmin raṇa-samudyame (22)
அர்ஜுன உவாச1 |
ஸேனயோருப4யோர்மத்4யே
ரத2ம்ஸ்தா2ப1ய மேச்1யுத1 ||21||
யாவதே3தா1ந்நிரீக்ஷேஹம்யோத்3து4கா1மானவஸ்தி2தா1ன்
|
கை1ர்மயா ஸஹயோத் 3த4வ்யமஸ்மின் ரணஸமுத்3யமே
||22||
Arjuna said:
21-22. In the middle of the two armies, place my chariot, O Krishna, so that I may behold those who stand here, desirous to fight, and know with whom I must fight when the battle begins.
योत्स्यमानानवेक्षेऽहं य एतेऽत्र
समागताः ।
धार्तराष्ट्रस्य दुर्बुद्धेर्युद्धे प्रियचिकीर्षवः ॥ १-२३॥
yotsyamānān avekṣhe ’haṁ ya
ete ’tra samāgatāḥ
dhārtarāṣhṭrasya durbuddher yuddhe priya-chikīrṣhavaḥ (23)
யோத்1ஸ்யமானாநவேக்ஷேஹம் ய ஏதே1த்1ர ஸமாக3தா1:
|
தா4ர்த1ராஷ்ட்1ரஸ்ய து3ர்பு3த்3தே4ர்யுத்3தே4 ப்1ரியசி1கீ1ர்ஷவ:
||23||
23. For I desire to observe those who are
assembled here to fight, wishing to please in battle the evil-minded Duryodhana
(the son of Dhritarashtra).
