Verses 37-38
Day 36 [2.37-2.38]
हतो वा
प्राप्स्यसि स्वर्गं जित्वा वा भोक्ष्यसे महीम् ।
तस्मादुत्तिष्ठ कौन्तेय युद्धाय कृतनिश्चयः ॥ २-३७॥
hato vā prāpsyasi swargaṁ jitvā vā bhokṣhyase mahīm
tasmād uttiṣhṭha kaunteya yuddhāya kṛita-niśhchayaḥ

ஹதோ1 வா ப்1ராப்1ஸ்யஸி ஸ்வர்க3ம்
ஜித்1வா வா போ4க்ஷ்யஸே மஹீம் |
த1ஸ்மாது3த்1தி1ஷ்ட2 கௌ1ன்தே1ய
யுத்3தா4ய க்1ருத1னிஶ்ச1ய:
||37||
37. Slain, thou wilt obtain heaven; victorious, thou wilt enjoy the earth; therefore, stand up, O son of Kunti, resolved to fight!
Commentary: In either case you will be benefited. Therefore, stand up with the firm resolution: “I will conquer the enemy or die.”
सुखदुःखे समे
कृत्वा लाभालाभौ जयाजयौ ।
ततो युद्धाय युज्यस्व नैवं पापमवाप्स्यसि ॥ २-३८॥
sukha-duḥkhe same kṛitvā lābhālābhau jayājayau
tato yuddhāya yujyasva naivaṁ pāpam avāpsyasi (2.38)

லாபா4லாபௌ4 ஜயாஜயௌ |
த1தோ1 யுத்3தா4ய யுஜ்யஸ்வ நைவம்
பா1ப1மவாப்1ஸ்யஸி ||38||
38. Having made pleasure and pain, gain and loss, victory and defeat the same, engage thou in battle for the sake of battle; thus thou shalt not incur sin.
Commentary: This is the Yoga of equanimity or the doctrine of poise in action. If a person performs any action with the above mental attitude or balanced state of mind, he will not reap the fruits of his action. Such an action will lead to the purification of his heart and freedom from birth and death. One has to develop such a balanced state of mind through continuous struggle and vigilant efforts.
