  Lesson 3.2 (Verses 8-16) March 4 – Day 64 Verse 3.08-3.09 नियतं कुरु कर्म त्वं कर्म ज्यायो ह्यकर्मणः । शरीरयात्रापि च ते न प्रसिद्ध्येदकर्मणः ॥ ३-८॥   niyata ṁ kuru karma twa ṁ karma jyāyo hyakarma ṇ a ḥ śharīra-yātrāpi cha te na prasiddhyed akarma ṇ a ḥ (8)   நியத 1 ம் கு 1 ரு க 1 ர்ம த் 1 வம் க 1 ர்ம ஜ்யாயோ ஹ்யக 1 ர்மண: | ஶரீரயாத் 1 ராபி 1   ச 1   தே 1   ந ப் 1 ரஸித் 3 த் 4 யேத 3 க 1 ர்மண: ||8||   8. Do thou perform thy bounden duty, for action is superior to inaction and even the maintenance of the body would not be possible for thee by inaction.   COMMENTARY: Niyatam Karma is an obligatory duty which one is bound to perform.   The non-performance of the bounden duties causes demerit.   The performance of the obligatory duties is not a means for the attainment of a specific result.   The performance does not cause any merit.   यज्ञार्थात्कर्मणोऽन्यत्र लोकोऽयं कर्मबन्धनः । तदर्थं कर्म कौन्तेय मुक्त...

  March 3 – Day 63 Verse 3.06-3.07 कर्मेन्द्रियाणि संयम्य य आस्ते मनसा स्मरन् । इन्द्रियार्थान्विमूढात्मा मिथ्याचारः स उच्यते ॥ ३-६॥   karmendriyā ṇ i sanyamya ya āste manasā smaran indriyārthān vimū ḍ hātmā mithyāchāra ḥ sa uchyate (6)   க 1 ர்மேன்ந்த் 3 ரியாணி ஸந்யம்ய ய ஆஸ்தே 1   மனஸா ஸ்மரன் | இந்த் 3 ரியார்தா 2 ன்விமூடா 4 த் 1 மா மித் 2 யாசா 1 ர: ஸ உச் 1 யதே 1  ||6||   6. He who, restraining the organs of action, sits thinking of the sense-objects in mind, he, of deluded understanding, is called a hypocrite.   Commentary: The five organs of action, Karma Indriyas, are Vak (organ of speech), Pani (hands), Padam (feet), Upastha (genitals), and Guda (anus).   They are born of the Rajasic portion of the five Tanmatras or Subtle elements; Vak from the Akasa Tanmatra (ether), Pani from the Vayu Tanmatra (air), Padam from the Agni Tanmatra (fire), Upastha from the Apas Tanmatra (water), and Guda from the Prithivi Tanmatra (earth). ...
